SmugMug, known for its photography management and sales platform, is launching a new marketing campaign titled “This Lens.” Aimed at celebrating the power of photographers to change perspectives and the world, “This Lens” aims to tell stories of real-life photographers and their pursuits.
Canon Canada just launched Canon Creator Lab as part of what I’m calling its new community-building mandate. A lot of corporations these days talk about building community, about creating a space to encourage growth. Most of it seems to be lip service at best. Here, however, we’re seeing Canon Canada invest time and money into a free hub designed to help photographers get better while actually connecting with each other. Being a Canadian, I’m proud that Canon’s Canadian operation is looking to lead the global photography community into this space.

Digital camera technology has reached a point where even our phones can produce images that can be mistaken for a “real camera” to the untrained eye. Photographers have never had more affordable access to image-making tools that can produce crisp, high-resolution images, rivaling those of professional gear from not very long ago. So, why then have objectively inferior vintage digital cameras been making a sudden comeback?
A key component for many street photographers is context in a scene. To many, an image without space in the frame for the setting may be considered as a portrait and not belonging to any particular genre or style. Street photographers are so focused on context they gravitate towards rangefinders that let you see outside the frame. This commonly held approach to street photography lends itself to the ubiquitous use of wide angle lenses.
Olympus has been assigning the Zuiko name to its range of high-quality lenses since 1936.
