When it comes to landscape photography, tripods are normally the tool of choice, but there are plenty of situations in which you might be without a tripod or when using one is too much work. That does not mean you can’t get sharp photos, though, and this helpful video tutorial will give you a range of tips to show you how.

Tripods are typically a tool every landscape photographer carries, but if you are anything like me, you hate the tedium involved with unpacking them, setting them up, taking the shot, tearing them down, and repacking them to move to the next location. When I am out for a hike, I just want to take a decent photo and move on. Thankfully, with the image stabilization capabilities of modern cameras and lenses and their high-ISO performance, if you employ a bit of solid technique, you often get what you need without a tripod.
