This October, the greatest bounty in the galaxy will be books: Star Wars Reads, a month-long celebration of reading and Star Wars, is back!
Celebrating its 10th year, Star Wars Reads blasts off on October 1 with special events and offers throughout the month.
For everyone from the youngest Padawans to the wisest Jedi Masters, there will be new and fun ways for everyone to explore a galaxy far, far away including free digital activities, reading challenges to do at home, and much more!
“We’re thrilled to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of Star Wars Reads,” says creative director of Lucasfilm Publishing Michael Siglain. “This started as a one-day event, primarily in schools and libraries, as a way to help promote literacy in kids. Over the last decade, thanks to librarians and fans, and with the help of our publishing partners and authors, Star Wars Reads has grown into a month-long celebration of all Star Wars literature. It’s a great way to encourage fans of all ages to read, and is now celebrated at home, in schools and libraries, and in bookstores all around the world. Star Wars is for everyone, and we hope everyone — especially kids and reluctant readers — will take a moment to travel to a galaxy far, far away and lose themselves in a book, comic, or magazine.”
“Reluctant readers are the most difficult group for libraries to reach and Star Wars Reads draws them in like a tractor beam,” adds Allen Callaci, the literacy librarian at Rancho Cucamonga in California. “The number of new readers and library regulars that are created each year via Star Wars Reads cannot be overestimated. The Force is strong with Star Wars Reads.”
Throughout the month, get ready for Star Wars events, promotional discounts, and giveaways, as well as announcements and reveals of new books and comics on StarWars.com.
To mark the occasion, Disney is donating 10,000 Star Wars books to First Book, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing new books and educational resources to educators who serve children in underserved communities. And you can help get more books to First Book! For every book purchased on shopDisney.com from now through December 31, 2021, Disney will donate a book to First Book.
