South Texas White X-Mas

Rare snow is south Texas!
Rare snow is south Texas!

Every year in South Texas, Brownsville to be exact children, parents, and grandma’s and grandpa’s hope for a white Christmas. Well for 2004 their hopes and wishes were answered!!! Brownsville got a white Christmas! I do believe it was the first ever white Christmas and the first snow in about 109 yrs. 1895 was the last year that snow fell and accumilated. It was midnight when the sleet began to fall, we were playing poker and I was on my last few dollars of the evening. I looked out and saw the sleet falling! We all got dressed and played in the icy water that was falling from the sky, the playing lasted for about 20 minutes before everyone got cold and wet and came back in to warm up!!! The grownups had coffee or maybe a shot or two of something else and the children had hot chocolate courtesy of GrandMa, LOL!!! An hour later and on my last hand, i got up and looked out the window (I thought I heard Santa!!!), and saw the softness of snow floating down to the earth from the sky! I was like “It is SNOWING!!!” My mom said “That is not snow, it is sleet.”  I said “Mom, I know what snow is, i have lived in it before remember! IT IS SNOWING!!!” Everyone quickly got up to look and then all the coats, hats, gloves came flying on to run outside and play in the snow! Including GrandPa, who wrote the above on the truck for posterity!

Enjoy All
